LinkedIn Posts on Product Development

When we moved into our neighborhood, there was an open field at the end of our road. The field supported several crops over the nearly 10 years we’ve lived in our home.

Now, it’s becoming a new neighborhood. Life progresses, and it was only a matter of time before homes were built at the end of our road.

For me, this represents product development.

The space is constantly changing. New products are brought to the market each year, quarter by quarter.

You and I don’t need to “like” seeing competitors moving into our space. They do, and we should adjust, we should get better at what we do in product delivery.

P.S. What steps are you taking to improve your products?

Memorable products are NOT created by individuals.

An idea for a product that solves a problem may start in one person’s mind. Once a conversation begins around the idea, it is no longer one person’s solution.

Team attribution and identity are powerful tools for product development. They serve to highlight accomplishment and galvanize focus.

“No member of a crew is praised for the rugged individuality of his rowing.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I recognize there cannot be a perfect a product, but there can be an excellent product. Teams are critical in delivering excellent products to market.

P.S. How do you work together?

There is a core attribute I expect when I’m buying a something that costs a significant amount of money.

⏲ Long-term durability

We owned the Toyota RAV4 in the picture for about 12 years. It took us to many places over 1,000s of miles.

Additionally, it kept us safe on three separate occasions. Enduring 3 collisions.

How often do we focus on durability in products? Specifically software systems?

Hard products are equally challenging. Do we intend for those physical products to last years?

As a repeat Toyota customer, I enjoy knowing that my vehicle will last. The pleasure I get by driving for miles without concern is priceless.

P.S. What durable products do you purchase?
