Last Friday, we did our monthly game night at the Dallas Improving office.
The value created by building connections outside of work cannot be overstated.
Connections help us relate to each other.
We become “more” human in our colleagues’ perceptions.
There are opportunities to discover more affinity area by participating in activities outside work.
Nonwork activities help build community.
What points am I missing on building connections with colleagues? Please write them in the comments below.
What would get Kevin Jourdain to come to the Dallas Improving office on a weekend?
I’m not going to give away the surprise in this post. It is based on technology and involves learning.
Weekend learning.
Learning should be a continuous process that never ends.
In product development, embracing continuous learning is a key to product evolution.
If we don’t seek feedback from the people using our products, are we developing the best products we can to serve them?
Tough question to ask, tougher to incorporate the learning into the ongoing development conversation.
So for this Saturday, be cool, stay calm, learn on!
What do you enjoy about your work?
For some, it is the sense of accomplishment when a problem is solved.
For others, it is the product release into the market after weeks to months of work.
And some folks enjoy the act of creating value in their organization, regardless of the work being done.
For me, it is when I can spend time working with a client building shared understanding around the work being planned.
I’m spending the next few days “white boarding” work with one of my clients. Working together to prioritize and sequence work to be done, identifying risks and mitigations strategies is part of what I get to do.
As a consultant, I have unique opportunities to move across disciplines and industries. It helps keep me sharp and allows me to add, create, and enhance value in different organizations.
Here’s to the start of Day 2!
P.S. What do you enjoy about your work?
