Busy week ahead for me. The Conscious Capitalism Conference is moving forward on May 9th and 10th!
But, it came after wrapping up another week of engaging work and fun experiences in our Dallas Improving office.
More LEGO building last Thursday!
I find being able to allow my mind to relax also allows it to work on problems unrelated to what I’m doing in the present moment.
Certainly, there are studies for how that works.
Does anyone have references for the processes around “play at work” and how it enables problem-solving?
We had a global townhall yesterday and a packed classroom last night at our Dallas Improving office.
Congratulations go out to the 2023 Improving 100!
Recognizing the efforts of our colleagues is wonderful. Being able to celebrate their efforts to make Improving better is a joy.
As well, sharing the Improving experience with the community is delightful. Hosting an AI focused meetup was one of the highlights of my day.
I deeply appreciate being able to support a conscious work culture. Explaining to visitors that the words we have written on the walls are not there as decoration.
P.S. What is your company doing right in its culture?
Yesterday’s fun?
Lego and gardening! Let me explain.
We have an initiative at Improving. It’s named “Come Together” and we focus on a theme for the month, April being the Earth and nature.
We intentionally connect over the theme and have activities and discussions on it.
We also have an internal learning program call “ImprovingU” where we teach each other what we know or involve our colleagues in activities we enjoy, like building with the LEGO Group products.
Two wonderful culture sustaining approaches.
I enjoyed both events. For me, it was about creating space for my mind to relax so that I can solve problems differently.
Lego blocks enable me to think freely about something unrelated to my work, which unlocks an ability to process information in my mind without explicit focus on the challenge.
Gardening connects me to the natural world outside our office, grounding me in life.
P.S. What product development hacks do you share with your colleagues and team that help sustain a productive culture?
